Cibitoke Commune Unveils Ambitious Development Plan for 2026-2027

La commune Cibitoke unveiled plans for eleven development projects to be implemented during the 2026-2027 budget year. Éloge Najeneza, the communal administrator, announced these initiatives on June 30, 2026. The full development strategy, encompassing these eleven distinct projects, aims to benefit various localities within the commune. Among the planned works, a public square will be developed in Rusiga, enhancing civic spaces for residents. Mr. Najeneza noted the commune's commitment to improving the quality of life and fostering economic growth through these strategic investments.

Infrastructure and Water Access

A modern market is slated for construction in the Rukana zone, providing a new commercial hub for local traders and residents. Simultaneously, Murambi will see the development of a market specifically dedicated to livestock and local drinks, catering to the agricultural sector and traditional commerce. Each of these markets is projected to cost thirty million Burundian francs, representing a significant investment in local economic infrastructure.

Further infrastructure improvements include the construction of a new bridge, which has an estimated cost of 49,510,000 Burundian francs. This vital link will connect the Nyabubuye hill with the Buganda zone of the commune Bukinanyana, facilitating easier movement and trade between these areas. Another bridge project is also planned, valued at 25 million Burundian francs, which will be built between the Ngoma and Gahabura zones, further enhancing connectivity within the commune. These infrastructure initiatives are part of the commune's broader development strategy for the upcoming budget year, focusing on improving accessibility and supporting economic activities. Additionally, the commune plans the construction of 40 public latrines to improve sanitation and public health facilities across various locations. A new water supply network is also slated for development, serving the localities of Buhindo, Kajerama, and Kagimbu, aiming to provide reliable access to drinking water for these communities.

Health and Education Boosts

The Murwi hospital is set to receive two new pieces of medical equipment as part of the development plan, significantly upgrading its healthcare capabilities. One of these items, specifically designated for blood treatment, is valued at thirty-five million Burundian francs, promising advanced care for patients. A complementary equipment item, costing an additional twenty-five million Burundian francs, will further bolster the hospital's diagnostic and treatment services. The Rugeregere health center, which has remained unfinished for some time, will be completed through an allocation of fifty million Burundian francs. This completion is expected to expand healthcare access for residents in the surrounding areas.

In the education sector, the commune plans to acquire ten computers for the Rugombo technical high school, equipping students with essential digital skills for future employment. The Gatara fundamental school will also see significant improvements, with the construction of two dedicated libraries. These new facilities will provide students with enhanced resources for learning and literacy. These initiatives collectively aim to bolster both healthcare services and educational infrastructure within Cibitoke Commune, addressing critical needs in these vital sectors.

Community Reactions and Goals

The planned investments encompass health, infrastructure, education, access to drinking water, and trade sectors, reflecting a holistic approach to communal development. Obède Ngabireyimana, an inhabitant of Cibitoke commune, welcomed the announcements, expressing optimism about the future impact of these projects. Ngabireyimana stated, "If all these projects are realized as planned, they will improve our living conditions and facilitate our economic activities. We demand, however, that the works be executed on time and with quality constructions, so that the entire population can benefit sustainably." The communal administrator, Éloge Najeneza, reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring timely and high-quality execution of all eleven projects, emphasizing their potential to transform the commune. These projects are anticipated to lay a strong foundation for sustained development and improved well-being for all residents of Cibitoke Commune.
