President of the Republic, Evariste Ndayishimiye, inaugurated projects by the Eglise Pentecôte de la Mission de Maramvya on August 22, 2026, marking significant contributions to community infrastructure and regional development. The President's presence showed the national importance of these initiatives. Among the inaugurated facilities was the "Salle Pentecôte," a spacious meeting room located in the commune of Kayanza, which boasts a capacity for 700 people. This facility is expected to host a variety of community and religious gatherings. Additionally, a substantial lodging building was unveiled in Commune Matongo, featuring an accompanying meeting room meticulously designed to accommodate up to 1,000 individuals. These developments were presented as part of the church's broader efforts in regional development, aiming to enhance local services and infrastructure.

Key Projects Unveiled

The inaugurations of the new projects occurred specifically in Commune Matongo, a key area located within Province de Butanyerera. This strategic location ensures that the benefits of these projects reach a wide segment of the local population. Among the critical facilities unveiled was a new water supply system, which the Eglise Pentecôte de la Mission de Maramvya developed with the specific aim of serving the residents of Zone Maramvya, also situated in Commune Matongo. This system is intended to provide essential, clean water services to the local population, addressing a fundamental community need.

Further enhancing the region's capacity for hospitality and large-scale events, a modern hotel featuring a meeting room capable of accommodating 1,000 people was also inaugurated within the Mission de Maramvya. This facility is expected to serve as a central point for various gatherings, conferences, and community events, attracting visitors and fostering local economic activity. The newly established water supply system specifically benefits several vital local institutions, including the Lycée technique de Maramvya and the Centre de santé de Maramvya, ensuring their consistent access to clean water, which is key for their operations and the well-being of their students and patients. These diverse projects collectively contribute to the broader infrastructure development efforts in the region, demonstrating a full approach to community improvement. The church's initiatives aim to significantly enhance community resources and support public services in the areas where these facilities are located, creating a lasting positive impact.

Church's Self-Reliance and Vision

President Evariste Ndayishimiye affirmed that Burundi's ambitious Vision 2040-2060, which outlines the nation's long-term development goals, could be achieved significantly faster if all churches in the country adopted the self-reliant approach demonstrated so effectively by the Eglise Pentecôte de la Mission de Maramvya. This statement notes the President's profound view on the church's potential and key contribution to national development goals, seeing it as a powerful, untapped resource for progress.

Jacques Banirwa, the Premier Révérant Pasteur of the Mission de Maramvya, provided critical insight into the funding model for these extensive projects. He stated emphatically that the recently inaugurated projects were financed solely by the dedicated contributions and concerted efforts of its Christian members. He further emphasized that these substantial initiatives were undertaken without any external aid, showing the church's deep-seated commitment to self-sufficiency and its capacity to mobilize internal resources for large-scale development. This self-funding model serves as a testament to the community's dedication and collective spirit.

Looking to the future, the Mission de Maramvya has outlined full plans for additional future projects, indicating a sustained commitment to institutional and economic growth. These ambitious plans include the establishment of a university, which would expand educational opportunities; a hospital, aimed at improving healthcare access; and a factory, which could stimulate local employment and economic production. The Premier Révérant Pasteur's remarks thus suggest a clear and expansive long-term vision for institutional and economic development, driven entirely by the church's internal resources and strong community support, promising continued progress for the region.

President's Call to Action

President Evariste Ndayishimiye, recognizing the transformative impact of the church's work, publicly pledged the construction of a vital road. This new infrastructure project will link the city of Kayanza directly with the Mission de Maramvya, according to state media reports. This promise shows the government's commitment to supporting such community-led development efforts by improving accessibility and connectivity. The President's remarks came as the total cost of the recently completed projects, including the "Salle Pentecôte" and the lodging building in Commune Matongo, was officially estimated at a substantial 3.5 billion Burundian francs (3,500,000,000 FBu). This significant investment, entirely self-funded by the church, notes the scale of their commitment. The President prominently noted the Eglise Pentecôte de la Mission de Maramvya's self-reliant approach as an exemplary model for other religious organizations across the nation. Burundi currently has nearly 800 churches, and Mr. Ndayishimiye strongly encouraged them to contribute similarly to national development efforts, envisioning a collective impact that could accelerate the country's progress towards its long-term goals.
