Burundi's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation convened a meeting with the Burundian private sector and artists on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in Bujumbura. The gathering aimed to outline opportunities that Burundian diplomacy can present to the private sector. Edouard Bizimana stated, "Vous le savez, le secteur privé, est le moteur du développement. Et , sans l’implication du secteur privé, aucun développement n’est possible" (You know, the private sector is the engine of development. And, without the involvement of the private sector, no development is possible). Bizimana invited the Burundian population to mobilize and contribute to the continental responsibility entrusted to Burundi. He added that the presence of the African Union offers many opportunities, including conferences for the private sector to profit from, noting, "De nombreuses réunions vont se tenir au Burundi et très récemment, une réunion des ministres de la défense se tiendra" (Numerous meetings will be held in Burundi, and very recently, a meeting of defense ministers will take place).

Diplomacy's Economic Opportunities

The Burundian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the private sector is considered the engine of development, asserting that no national progress is possible without its involvement. Officials noted that the presence of the African Union within Burundi presents numerous opportunities, including conferences that the private sector should benefit from. Many meetings are anticipated to take place in Burundi, with a recent gathering of defense ministers already held. In line with this strategic focus, a continental dialogue edition was organized within this framework. This significant event is projected to bring together more than 1,200 participants from across the continent, showing the potential for economic engagement through diplomatic activities.

Burundi's AU Leadership Role

The President of the Republic of Burundi is currently serving as the Chairperson of the African Union. In this capacity, the President also holds the distinction of being designated as the champion for peace and security across the continent. Additionally, the President is recognized as the champion for addressing youth-related issues within the African Union framework.

Culture as Development Foundation

Officials emphasized the foundational role of culture in national development. They stated that culture serves as the basis for development, asserting that any nation without its distinct culture risks its very existence. A people without culture, they claimed, is a people on the verge of disappearing. This perspective frames cultural preservation and promotion as essential for societal progress and continuity.

Call for National Mobilization

Burundian officials called for national mobilization, urging all citizens to contribute to the continental responsibilities entrusted to Burundi. The nation is currently hosting numerous African Union meetings, including a recent gathering of defense ministers. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation has noted that such events provide significant opportunities for the private sector. These diplomatic engagements are seen as avenues for economic growth and national development. Citizens are encouraged to participate actively in these initiatives, reinforcing Burundi's role on the African stage. The government emphasizes that collective effort is key for leveraging the benefits arising from these international platforms.
